Your Calling... Pastor First, Specialty Second

I am often asked, "What does an Executive Pastor do?" To answer that question, it's best to look at my title. Simply put, my job as an Executive Pastor is to execute. I execute the Lead Pastor's vision for our church, our staff, our ministries, our missions, etc. Doing this job well means that I have to be great with administration, operations, communication, policies and procedures, staff management, finance and accounting, leadership development, and so much more.

However, to be clear, these responsibilities are NOT my primary job.

Let's go back to my title again. I am an Executive PASTOR. My number one job is to pastor and shepherd our people well. This is my calling. When I look through the Bible, I do not see any Youth Pastors, Worship Pastors, Discipleship Pastors, Executive Pastors, etc. All I see are pastors. Being an excellent and faithful pastor is my primary job.

So, let me encourage you with this. If you are an Executive Pastor, be great with your specialty, but be excellent with your calling. You are called to be a pastor. So, approach this role with the right priorities. Pastor first, specialty second.
